Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti has hit out at Wayne Rooney for his criticism of Pepe after the Manchester United striker called him "an idiot" for stamping on Barcelona forward Lionel Messi on Wednesday.
Pepe appeared to deliberately tread on the Barca star during Wednesday night's Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg clash at the Bernabeu.
His actions led to Rooney hitting out at the the Portugal international for his actions, taking to Twitter to write: "Pepe. What an idiot. Sometimes people wind u up."
Just minutes later, Messi later set up Eric Abidal to score Barca's winner, which led to Rooney then tweeting: "Haha. That goal serves pepe right."
But Guti has criticised the England international for making the comments given his own track record.
Also having his say via Twitter, Guti said: "I laugh at Rooney. But there are many saints in heaven, and if you want to be a saint you must lead by example.
"Making mistakes is human."
Barca take a 2-1 lead back to Camp Nou for next Wednesday night's second leg.
Cristiano Ronaldo had put Madrid ahead in the first half in the Spanish capital, before goals from Carles Puyol and Abidal gave Pep Guardiola's the advantage.
