With monster moves for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo both rubbished in recent weeks, it seems as though Manchester United are now turning their attention elsewhere. According to reports from the Daily Star, United are ready to offer over $118 million for former midfielder Paul Pogba, who Sir Alex Ferguson allowed to leave for Juventus back in 2012.

The French international has blossomed into one of the finest two-way midfielders in the game and Louis van Gaal is reportedly ready to splash the cash in order to jump ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for Pogba. Just 21, Pogba recently signed a new deal with Juve until 2019 but the Turin-based club will find it hard to turn down that kind of cash if the Red Devils come calling. Watch this space.

Elsewhere in Manchester, City have reportedly had a bid turned down by Atletico Madrid for teenage defender Jose Gimenez. The 19-year-old played for Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup and it is thought Manuel Pellegrini is eager to bolster his defense in January, with City also keeping close tabs on Atletico’s Brazilian defender Joao Miranda.

Down the M62 in Liverpool, the Reds are said to be winning the race for Bayern Munich’s wantaway wingerXherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international winger has been on the outside looking in every since he arrived in Bavaria from FC Basel, but Liverpool are ready to offer Shaqiri an escape route and the pacey winger is said to be keen on a move to Anfield. According to the Metro, Liverpool have offered a permanent deal for Shaqiri while the rest of his suitors in the Bundesliga and Serie A are only willing to take the 23-year-old on loan. Advantage Liverpool?

Didier Drogba could be ready to retire at the end of the season, and Chelsea have already lined up his replacement. According to several reports Croatian striker Andrej Kramaric is on his way to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues eager to tie up a deal with HNK Rijeka for the $12 million rated striker. With Jose Mourinho having Drogba, Diego Costa and Loic Remy to choose from, it believed he wants one more body and a potential long-term successor to Drogba who can bring a physical presence. Kramaric, 23, is a full Croatian international and would be a bit of a gamble but well worth it at that price.
