According to the Daily Star, the Blues are considering an offer for the Germany international, who signed for Arsenal two summers ago for £42.5million.

Ozil has had a tumultuous season at the Emirates, hitting poor form off the back of a successful World Cup campaign last summer.

But his recent outings have improved and, with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho scouting out midfield recruits for next season, the 26-year-old could make the switch across London come July.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also seeking to plunder another London club as they draw up a £20m bid for West Ham full-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 25-year-old is seen as a direct replacement for Felipe Luis, who could be heading to Real Madrid this summer.

Cresswell has made 37 appearances for the Hammers this season and his arrival would greatly help the Blues' 'home-grown' quota of players.

But any bid is likely to be strongly rejected by West Ham, who understand the value of their defender could rise significantly over the coming season.

Chelsea's search for a striker has led them to challenge Arsenal and Manchester United for Palermo ace Paulo Dybala.

According to the player's agent, Gustavo Mascardi, Dybala is wanted by a host of European clubs and Palermo are holding out for £29m (€40m).

The 21-year-old has scored 13 goals this season and would act as an understudy to current first-choice front man Diego Costa.

"(Palermo president) Maurizio Zamparini is asking for £29m and it seems to me like a fair price," Mascardi told Tuttosport.

"Chelsea presented an offer a while ago, but it was very low.

"In the end, Dybala will choose the team in which he sees the best options to grow, and Zamparini will decide if the offer is appropriate for him."
