Lazio have reportedly struck up a deal with Manchester United to sign Robin van Persie.

The striker has found himself on the fringes of the first team following the arrival of Louis van Gaal as manager last summer, although he did manage to net 13 goals in 36 appearances.

And with only a year left to run on his existing Old Trafford contract, reports in Italy claim the Serie A outfit are ready to offer Netherlands international Van Persie a four-year contract to make the move to Rome.

It is suggested Lazio see the 31-year-old as the ideal replacement for Miroslav Klose, who too only has 12 months left on his deal at the Stadio Olimpico.

A fee in the region of €15million (£11m) has been mooted for the player, whom cost United £24m when buying him from Arsenal back in 2012.
