Bayern Munich join Man Utd in race to sign Xherdan Shaqiri - report

Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to join Manchester United and others in the race to sign FC Basel winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri looked set to join Galatasaray last week but saw a deal fall through after the two clubs were unable to agree a fee.

And according to Bild, Bayern are now looking to enter talks with the Swiss club with a view to completing a deal for the 20-year-old at the end of the season.

Basel are believed to be wanting as much as £20million for Shaqiri - nearly double the amount it is thought Galatasaray were willing to pay.

Basel sporting director George Heitz recently confirmed that both Manchester United and Bayern Munich were keen on signing the highly-rated Switzerland international.

He told reporters prior to the Galatasaray deal falling through that he had some "astonishing offers" for the youngster and that "clubs from Germany, Britain and Eastern Europe are asking" about the player.

Liverpool have also been linked with Shaqiri, while reports last week suggested Zenit St Petersburg were preparing to launch a bid.
