Real Madrid CF winger Angel Di Maria a target for Chelsea FC

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria was linked with a move to the Premier League last year on more than one occasion, with Manchester United thought to be keen on luring him away from the Bernabeu.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the 23-year-old, who has been at Madrid for around eighteen months, could be offloaded by the Spanish giants, despite featuring regularly under coach Jose Mourinho.

Di Maria, who joined Los Blancos from Benfica in a deal worth around €25million, angered manager Mourinho and Real Madrid officials last summer by going public and stating that he wanted improved terms on his six-year deal, despite him at the time only having been at the club for twelve months.

Just last month, reports in Spain suggested that the Argentina international was looking to risk upsetting his employers yet again by demanding a pay rise which would see him nearly double his £1.5m annual salary.

And according to talkSPORT, Chelsea are ready to capitalise on any uncertainty by launching a £35million bid for the player.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is closing on the signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill and has already admitted that at least one more signing is likely to be made before the end of the month.

Porto striker Hulk and Napoli forward Edinson Cavani are also on Villas-Boas' radar.

Di Maria is one of the lower paid stars at Madrid, with compatriot Gonzalo Higuain earning just short of £3m a year and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka earning in the region of £9m.

Mourinho has been keen to praise the forward this season as a result of his performances for the club, but reports in Spain in recent weeks have suggested that should the player not be granted his pay rise, then a move either this month or at the end of the season could become a possibility.
