Chelsea FC set for talks with Edinson Cavani over £35m deal - report

Chelsea are still keen on signing Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, who reportedly wants £150,000 a week to join the Blues.

Chelsea on Monday night were closing in on the signing of Internacional attacker Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junio in a £25million deal after agreeing a transfer "in principle" with the South American club (see Related Articles).

But according to the Daily Mail, once a deal for Oscar is completed, Chelsea will look at bringing in a new striker, with Cavani top of the shortlist.

According to Tuesday's report, the Uruguay international, who will be in action for his country later this month at the London 2012 Olympics, will be available for £35million - Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had last month claimed he wanted £60m for the forward - and his representatives are set for talks with Chelsea officials later this week.

For a detail to happen, however, Cavani will demand parity with Chelsea’s top earners and wants a £150,000-a-week deal to move to west London, which would put him on a par with the likes of captain John Terry, Frank Lampard, and record signing Fernando Torres.

Cavani earlier this month refused to rule out a summer move, and speaking to South American website Subraydo, he gave clubs interested in signing him fresh hope of a deal going through.

"This is football," he said.

"I think the president is a little...[he] likes to play with the numbers.

"I think that regardless of whether an offer will come in or not, the chance to sit down and talk will come and he will do that calmly.

"He will use his head, he is a very good businessman and it will all be worked out."

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain are still said to be on Chelsea's radar, as is Porto striker Hulk.

Juventus, Manchester City, and French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be keen on signing Cavani.
