Liverpool and Fulham agree a fee for Clint Dempsey

A source close to Full-Time Whistle has today informed us that a fee has been agreed for Fulham star Clint Dempsey.
Clint Dempsey
The source, who wishes to remain anonymous, has told us that a fee has been agreed in the region of £7m, and that Charlie Adam is not part of the deal.
Dempsey has been linked with Liverpool for the last couple of weeks, even more so after news broke that he did not wish to extend his contract at Fulham and wanted to explore other opportunities.
It is now expected that, following a medical at Melwood, the announcement will come at some point during LFC’s North American preseason tour, to have maximum effect on the US market. Although Dempsey isn’t a massive name in English football compared to the likes of Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, and Fernando Torres, Dempsey is a household name for football fans across the pond.
The Texan and USA international, who started his professional career in Major League Soccer for the New England Revolution, signed for Fulham in 2007, and has scored 61 goals in 228 appearances in all competitions, and was Fulham’s Player of the Season for 2011/12 and 2010/11, so it comes as no surprise that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants him in a Liverpool shirt.
Dempsey is incredibly good with the ball at his feet and thrives on pass and move, a system that Rodgers found so successful while in charge of Swansea, and which is clearly what he is trying to implement at Liverpool.
Adding to his accolades, Dempsey is the first American to score 50 Premier League goals, with a spectacular free kick against Sunderland in Fulham’s final game of the 2011/12 season.
He also came fourth in last seasons Premier League Player of the Season award, falling only behind Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes.
He is certainly a player that will excite Liverpool fans, especially as he is one of the best players to come out of the United States.
There have also been reports that Charlie Adam was to be involved some way in the deal, whether it be Adam plus cash for Dempsey, or a straight swap. We have however been informed that this is not the case, and Adam will play most of next season, after recovering from an injury sustained towards the end of last season.
