Liverpool FC striker Luis Suarez back to face Man Utd this week

Luis Suarez is set to return for Liverpool this week - and Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to having the striker back in contention.

Liverpool were unbeaten this season before slumping to a surprise defeat at home to Southampton on Saturday and are currently fifth in the Premier League table with 10 points from 5 games.

Suarez has now completed his 10-game ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, and speaking before the weekend's 1-0 defeat, Rodgers had insisted the strong start to the campaign proved Liverpool were not a one-man team.

However, the Reds boss admits having the Uruguay international available again will be a boost to the club.

"I think that's a positive from today; the fact that he is back now and he's available from next week," said Rodgers.

"He just needs to get games to bring him right up to full speed."

Suarez is available for Wednesday's League Cup third-round meeting with Manchester United at Old Trafford, and Rodgers added: "I think he's in a good condition and he's been playing games, both behind closed doors and ones organised for him.

"He's been doing a lot of specific work with the conditioning teams.

"He's obviously not going to be 100%, when you come into these sorts of cup games and these games that are at a greater intensity. But he's a worker and he's a fighter and his condition is good. He's in a good place."
