According to Goal.com, the Spanish club are not interested in letting the Ballon d'Or holder leave next summer. They also claim that Ronaldo would not be willing to move to a club that could not offer Champions League football, a distinct possibility should he switch to Old Trafford.
The report comes amid a clamour from Manchester United fans to see the player who enjoyed a successful six years at Old Trafford culminate in a banner being flown over Real Madrid's most recent match.
Supporters' group UNITED REEL organised a plane to fly over yesterday's match at Villarreal's El Madrigal stadium towing the banner 'COME HOME RONALDO'. Perhaps inspired from above, Ronaldo was on target in the 2-0 win for Real Madrid to register his eighth goal in three games.
Today's report offers a different view to those earlier in the week that suggested a sense that Real Madrid could be willing to sell the 29-year-old because of the persistent desire of Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, to create a splash by renewing his squad.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal recently indicated his interest in signing Ronaldo, suggesting that a deal "is possible". However the Dutchman also said at the same time that he did not expect Real Madrid to sell.
