- Xherdan Shaqiri has confirmed that Liverpool tried to sign him in the summer, only for Bayern Munich to block the deal.

Shaqiri told Swiss newspaper Blick: "Of course I want to be playing more. I wanted a move in the summer, of course, but the club made their decision and I've just got to live with it.

"I just felt after the World Cup that it would be better for me to try something new. I thought about moving and I had lots of enquiries, but Bayern decided I had to stay - and you can't do much about that as a player.

"Liverpool showed the greatest interest but Bayern decided not to let me go and in the end there was nothing I could do.

"I have to get on with it - we will meet again in the winter and discuss my situation."
