Cristiano Ronaldo hits 50 again

Cristiano Ronaldo
An insatiable warrior but, above all, one who was committed to the cause. This was Cristiano Ronaldo in the match against Málaga, despite his pursuit of a personal milestone.

Ronaldo began the game knowing he might get his 50th goal of the season, and he tried to score it in every way he could: from a free kick; from inside the area; from a penalty; with his right foot; with his left foot... but that elusive goal stayed that way. Unlike in other matches, though, he did not give way to despair. Even though he had missed a penalty. His spot-kick bounced off the post, and it was his sixth penalty miss at Real Madrid.

All the same, he kept his patience and in the end the goal came. In time added on, he hit the back of the net after a fine individual move by Chicharito. And it was a strike that set a new record in Spanish football. Cristiano is the first-ever player to chalk up at least 50 goals in four consecutive seasons.

Prior to that, Real Madrid enjoyed the Portuguese footballer's more charitable side. Ronaldo was the first on the scene when Gareth Bale and Luka Modric were injured, and was involved in all of his team's goals: two assists and the tap-in that put the game beyond Málaga's reach. He began by playing in Sergio Ramos with a cross/shot from a free-kick swung in from the flank. Then, in the second half, he completed a lovely one-two with James for the Colombian to put the ball in the top corner.

Counting these two assists, Cristiano has now played in a teammate 16 times so far this season. This is his best figure as a provider in his career. There are still six league games to go and, as a minimum, Wednesday's Champions League clash. That gives him seven more matches to continue to inflate his figures, which are turning him into quite the legend
