Manchester United Transfer News: Ezequiel Lavezzi, Ezequiel Garay Bids Expected
Manchester United are set to spend big again in the transfer market this summer, and they are reportedly lining up offers for Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi and Zenit Saint Petersburg defender Ezequiel Garay.

The future of United's current attacking unit is uncertain, with Radamel Falcao looking unlikely to make a permanent move to Old Trafford from Monaco and the future of Robin van Persie being questioned, per the Mirror's David McDonnell.

As a result, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly eyeing Lavezzi—who can play across the front three—with United "preparing a huge transfer offer" for the player, per Fichajes.net (h/t Metro's George Bellshaw).

Lavezzi's future at PSG is uncertain, as he is behind the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani in the pecking order at the Parc des Princes, per Ligue 1 expert Jonathan Johnson:

Lavezzi has only scored seven league goals in 28 appearances this season, per WhoScored.com, a poor rate for such a player.

However, with his recent hat-trick against Lille, the 30-year-old showed he still has the creative touch that made him such a success at former clubNapoli.

It would be something of a gamble for United to go in for Lavezzi, especially if a large transfer fee is involved.

But he has been unsettled in Paris, and a potential move to Old Trafford could see him return to his best form consistently.

Ezequiel Garay Bid Readied

It's obvious that Van Gaal needs to strengthen his defensive unit over the summer.

The likes of Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair and Phil Jones have looked good in fits this season, but United's recent 3-0 drubbing by Everton showed they lack quality and depth at the back.

A confident, experienced centre-back is a vital addition for the Red Devils, per Bleacher Report's Stan Collymore:

Zenit Saint Petersburg's Ezequiel Garay has been a long-term target of the Old Trafford outfit, and they are reportedly readying an £18.5 million summer offer for the 28-year-old Argentinian.

United were pursuing Garay in the summer of 2014 before he moved to Zenit for £12 million, per Adam Shergold of the MailOnline.

However, he has not settled well in Russia and is now looking for a move to the Premier League, per Fichajes.net (h/t Bellshaw).

Garay has played a key role for table-topping Zenit in the Russian Premier League this season, as they have conceded the fewest amount of goals in the division.

Garay is confident on the ball—a key factor for Van Gaal—and his solidity and calmness would be welcome additions to an often vulnerable United defence.
