Arsenal are a different beast in the transfer market these days.

They’ve bought Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and now Petr Cech in successive windows, but they’re also getting rid of some players that probably should have gone a long time ago.

Gunners supporters probably can’t believe their luck – Arsene Wenger finally appears to have heard their years and years of pleas.

Here are the biggest stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium today.

William Carvalho close to signing – report

Geoffrey Kondogbia and Morgan Schneiderlin look to have got away – but Wenger’s pretty keen not to let Carvalho do the same.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder shone at the U21 championships in the Czech Republic, and it looks like Arsenal are going to beat Manchester United to his signature.

He should cost around £18.2million – could be outstanding value.

Club listening to offers for David Ospina, Lukas Podolski, Mathieu Flamini and Joel Campbell – report

Wenger’s getting ruthless.

After Abou Diaby’s release, Arsenal are ready to clear out some more deadwood.

Reports say the club are willing to listen to offers for the quarter as they assess the need for more players.

Mikel Arteta signs contract extension – report

Maybe there is still a sensitive side to Arsene.

It’s understood that Arteta will get a one-year contract extension, and to be fair you can’t let a guy of his class and experience just disappear.

Could well be his last contract at the Emirates Stadium, though…
