The latest gossip on Mesut Ozil moving to Turkey, are two Chelsea stalwarts on the way out and some mixed news for Man United fans wanting to sign Neymar.

Football transfers are largely about the biggest clubs buying the best players from other teams who aren’t quite as big. A bit like a school bully ordering a nerdy kid to hand over his sweets, then paying him over-the-odds for them. But today it appears that one of the smaller kids has had some karate lessons and has decided to fight back. According to the Standard, Fenerbahce are poised to sign Mesut Ozil from big boys Arsenal.

It’s a strange one, mainly because world class players tend to move to Turkey when they’re over the hill, rather than 26 years old and in the prime of life like Ozil. Although it does beg the question, is Ozil already over the hill?

The source of this story is the player’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut, who sounds like he’d be better equipped to deal with Ozil’s fitness regime rather than his transfer business. Dr Sokut states: “At Arsenal, Mesut is very successful in his performances, but Fenerbahce seem serious.” This is where it starts to sound fishy, not only because the guy is a doctor, but because it seems he hasn’t been paying much attention to his client’s form at the Emirates.
Having said that, Ozil’s recent displays have been Ronaldo-esque compared to Chelsea’s out-of-sorts Branislav Ivanovic, and the Mail suggests that Jose Mourinho has lost patience with his right-back and ordered his scouts to draw up a list of suitable replacements.

The Mirror claims that John Terry’s Stamford Bridge future is also in doubt, especially after both he and Ivanovic were left out of the Blues’ Champions League match against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Both could remain on the bench for this weekend’s derby against Arsenal, says the tabloid.

Mamadou Sakho is in a strange situation at Liverpool, who are not picking him but have apparently offered him a contract extension. The Star reports that the centre-back will reject the offer until the Reds put him back in the team.

Swansea are set to make an £8m bid for Leeds right-back Sam Byram, although Swans boss Garry Monk plans to play the 22-year-old on the right wing, says the Mirror.
Neymar staying at Barca
Finally, the good news for Manchester United fans is that Neymar will not be signing a new contract at Barcelona any time soon, according to his dad. The bad news is that he doesn’t need to because he has three years left on his current deal and is staying at Barca, also according to his dad.
